3rd Forensic Linguistics Short Course
The 3rd Flsc will be an online event due to the ongoing world-wide health crisis. Nonetheless, we are confident that the 3rd FLsc will be a success as our lecturers are experienced in delivering hands-on online courses. We plan social events and will provide an online-platform for socializing before, during and after the FLsc.
As in previous years, we invite students (Bachelor’s and Master’s) as well as graduate students and postdocs from Linguistics (and its sub-disciplines), Phonetics and Phonology, Law/Legal Studies, and related fields to apply for this international interdisciplinary program. All sessions will be conducted in English.
Participants will conduct preliminary readings before the course to ensure a basic level of knowledge necessary. Readings will be provided by the coordinators well before the course takes place. Homework will be provided for the time between August 16 and 20. Participants will be able to use our online-platform to collaboratively work on their assignments.
The FLsc is taught by Dr Isabel Picornell and Dr Ria Perkins and will take place online on August 16/17/20 2021. As our team is located in Europe, the time schedule of the FLsc will be planned to work best in GMT+1 and time zones nearby. You are welcome to join from any time zone, though.
Applications are currently open. They will close May 31, 2021 (10.00pm, GMT+1). Notifications of acceptance will be sent in early June. You can apply here. If there are any questions regarding applications, please ask the coordinators (Natascha & Dominic) via our contact form here.
Participation fees (online version):
- National and International Participants
- Participants from University of Cologne and HHU Düsseldorf
Workshop: Statistics for Linguistics
For the first time, a workshop on statistics for linguistics will take place directly after the FLsc. Participants of the 3rd FLsc are welcome to participate, however, participation is not mandatory and does not influence your chances of participating in the FLsc itself.
Visit this site for further information. Note: You can sign up for the workshop during your application for the 3rd FLsc. Participation is free of charge for participants of the 3rd FLsc.
Deadline for fee payment is 15 July 2021. If you cannot afford to pay the total fee at once, please contact the coordination team for payment by installments. Payment will be done via wire transfer. The FLsc fee covers the online tools we will use during the summer school, the payment of our two scholars, and the maintenance of our website. Our fees are calculated without a profit margin, the FLsc is a non-profit event.
If you cannot attend the summer school and/or the workshop, you may cancel your participation until 31 July 2021. Up until this deadline, no fee has to be paid. In case your fee is already paid, you will get back the entire amount paid. However, if you cancel afterwards or do not show up, you are expected to pay the full fee.
